Udayapur: Two people were killed and five others injured after strong winds toppled a tree in Katari, Udayapur, on Sunday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Minamaya Tamang of Katari Municipality–8, Thaliyatar, and 64-year-old Birendra Chaudhary, a resident of Katari Municipality–5.
According to the Area Police Office, Katari, Chaudhary died when a dried sal tree fell onto a snack shop made of tin roofing and लकड़ी near the Radha Krishna Temple in Katari–5 during a windstorm accompanied by rainfall.
Five others were injured in the same incident after being struck by the falling tree. The injured include four-year-old Binisha Chaudhary, 27-year-old Yubraj Karki of Aahaledanda, 46-year-old Leela Bahadur Danuwar of Balaha, 46-year-old Prem Chandra Danuwar from the same locality, and 16-year-old Asmita Pariyar of Katari Municipality–12, Baseri. They are currently receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Katari.
In a separate incident, Minamaya Tamang sustained serious injuries after being hit by a falling tree branch while moving her goats and sheep during the storm. Although she was rushed to the Provincial Hospital in Katari for treatment, doctors declared her dead at 9:10 PM, according to police.
Among the injured, 46-year-old Leela Bahadur Danuwar, who sustained serious head injuries, has been referred to Biratnagar for further treatment, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Dong.
