Oath of newly elected HoR members scheduled for 12th Chaitra

Kathmandu : The Federal Parliament Secretariat has scheduled the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members of the House of Representatives for 2:00 PM on Chaitra 12. The date and time were determined following consultations with representatives of political parties represented in Parliament.

According to Ekaram Giri, spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members will take place at the مقرر time. Article 88 of the Constitution stipulates that members of each House of the Federal Parliament must take an oath in accordance with federal law before participating for the first time in any meeting of the House or its committees.

As per spokesperson Giri, the President will administer the oath to the senior-most member of the House of Representatives. Subsequently, the senior-most member will administer the oath to the remaining 274 newly elected members.

The senior-most member will first take the oath at the Office of the President on Chaitra 12, after which the same member will administer the oath to the other newly elected members at Singha Durbar. According to Giri, the identification of the senior-most member is yet to be finalized. The Secretariat will verify citizenship certificates and determine age in order to confirm the senior-most member. A final decision is expected by Friday afternoon.

The Election Commission only on Thursday submitted the final results of the House of Representatives election, held on Falgun 21, to President Ram Chandra Poudel and the Federal Parliament Secretariat. The Secretariat had been awaiting the Commission’s report before setting the date for the oath-taking ceremony.

Representatives from six political parties participated in the consultation held at Singha Durbar, including Kavindra Burlakoti (Rastriya Swatantra Party), Mohan Acharya (Nepali Congress), Guru Baral (CPN-UML), Gyan Bahadur Shahi (Rastriya Prajatantra Party), and a representative from the Shram Sanskriti Party.

Parliamentary Session from the Third Week of Chaitra

Following the submission of the election results report to President Poudel by the Election Commission, the Office of the President will call the session of the Federal Parliament. Article 93 of the Constitution states that the President must summon a session of the Federal Parliament within 30 days from the date of the final election results announcement.
