‘World Water and Meteorological Day’ being observed today

Kathmandu — World Water and Meteorological Day is being observed in Nepal today with various programs under the slogan “Today’s Observation, Tomorrow’s Safety.” This day has been celebrated since 1961 in commemoration of the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization in 1950.

On this occasion, it has been stated that discussions will be held on raising awareness about meteorology, the importance of forecasting systems, and measures for mitigating climate-related risks.

Meteorologist Sujan Subedi from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology informed that programs have been scheduled to promote awareness about weather-related issues, highlight the significance of forecasting systems, and discuss ways to reduce climate risks.

World Meteorological Day is observed every year on March 23. On this occasion, awareness is raised globally about the role of weather and climate services and their contributions to human life, agriculture, water resources, and disaster management.
