20 foreign women arrested for indecent behavior in Thamel

Kathmandu, March 25: Police have arrested 20 foreign women from Thamel, a प्रमुख tourist area of Kathmandu, on charges of engaging in immoral activities and indecent behavior.

According to the police, the arrests were made based on information that the women were approaching both domestic and foreign tourists in public places, bargaining for money illegally, and pressuring them to engage in sexual activities, thereby causing harassment to the general public.

Police spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai stated that a joint team from the District Police Range Kathmandu and the Lainchaur Police Circle apprehended the women during surveillance and inspection operations conducted at various locations in Thamel. They were found on a public road at Fire Chowk, Ward No. 26 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

All the arrested individuals are citizens of Uganda. Police reported that they had been obstructing pedestrians—particularly male tourists—and engaging in obscene negotiations and indecent conduct.

A case has been filed against the 20 women under charges of “indecent behavior.” The Lainchaur Police Circle is conducting further investigation after obtaining a 12-day extension from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
