Surunga (Jhapa): The Mechi Highway, which had been operating one-way since last night after clearing an earlier landslide, has been obstructed again this morning following another landslide.
Transportation services have been disrupted after fresh debris fell on the section of the road that had only recently been reopened for one-way traffic.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Bhandari of the District Police Office, Ilam, the highway has been completely blocked due to the landslide that occurred this morning.
Efforts are currently underway to reopen the obstructed road. Earlier, the highway had been blocked in the evening due to a dry landslide but was brought into one-way operation from 10:50 PM after clearance.
However, the situation has worsened after another landslide struck again this morning. The incident occurred at Bagkhor in Ward No. 4 of Rong Rural Municipality, Ilam, at a road maintenance site where dry debris, including stones, fell from above.
During the incident, a truck (registration number Province 1–01–001 Kha 4334) carrying stones and traveling from Ilam to Jhapa was buried in the landslide, police reported.
