48 arrested in Kathmandu for harassing and soliciting passengers

Kathmandu: A total of 48 individuals have been arrested on charges of harassing and forcibly soliciting passengers. According to the police, 19 individuals were arrested from the Balkhu area by the Kalimati Police Circle and its subordinate units, 24 from Kalanki, and 5 from the New Bus Park by the Gongabu Police Division.

The arrests were made following complaints that individuals working at bus ticket counters in various parts of the Kathmandu Valley were unnecessarily pulling and pressuring passengers who were about to board buses or Sumos (shared jeeps) traveling the Valley. Police have stated that investigations against the accused will proceed under charges of public misconduct (indecent behavior).
