Kathmandu – Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Ravi Lamichhane, has stated that they will fulfill their responsibilities and repay the mandate entrusted to them by the people. Speaking on a party basis during the first session of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Chairman Lamichhane clarified that the public voted for them not to merely run Singha Durbar (the administrative center) but to transform it, and that they have already begun working accordingly.
“We have come to this position through questioning. We must prove ourselves through actions, not just words. We will learn lessons from past shortcomings,” Chairman Lamichhane said. “This parliament will be a forum for debate, not for revenge. The opposition will not face unjust retaliation or oppression, but the pace of good governance will not be halted. Every member of Rastriya Swatantra Party must prove themselves through work, not words.”
He emphasized that the law will no longer be amended to protect oneself or implicate others and highlighted that the mother of martyrs has the primary right to justice, which should not be construed as revenge. Chairman Lamichhane also pledged that the government would create equal opportunities and a professional environment, ensuring that the private sector—long pressured by intermediaries and mafia—will no longer face such undue influence.
He expressed commitment to eliminating discrimination based on caste or gender and promised special attention to the welfare of senior citizens and the education and health of children. While expecting voluntary transition for those who held political appointments in the past, he clarified that future appointments would strictly adhere to legal and merit-based standards.
Chairman Lamichhane further stated that ambassadorial appointments would be made in the interest of workers, not under intermediary influence. He highlighted plans to utilize the capital, skills, and discipline of Non-Resident Nepalis for Nepal’s economic development and stressed that the country would pursue a friendly and transparent foreign policy while including the opposition.
