Kathmandu: Prime Minister Walendra Shah on Thursday removed Dipak Kumar Sah from his position as Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security. The decision was made based on the recommendation of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
RSP Chairman Ravi Lamichhane had recommended action against Minister Sah, alleging that while in office, he had misused his ministerial position by appointing his wife to the Health Insurance Board, where she had long been inactive, and involving her in regular duties.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the RSP Central Disciplinary Commission had conducted a detailed study of the matter and submitted a report to the party, concluding that Sah should face disciplinary action. Chairman Lamichhane, citing the report, noted that Sah’s actions had caused serious harm to the party’s image, principles, and decorum, and submitted a recommendation to Prime Minister Shah for appropriate action.
Based on this recommendation, Prime Minister Shah removed Minister Sah from his position, according to press release issued by Deepa Dahal.
The RSP pointed out that Article 25 (4)(a) of the party constitution assigns the party chairman the responsibility to ensure that the party’s ideals, principles, and decorum are not compromised. Furthermore, under Article 69 of the party constitution, in cases of misuse of office, the party has the right to recall members from responsibility (“Right to Recall”). Accordingly, the party recommended that Minister Sah be immediately relieved of his duties.
Similarly, due to a lack of expected diligence in handling this serious matter, Chairman Lamichhane also recommended to Prime Minister Shah that Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehta be cautioned. Following this recommendation, Prime Minister Shah has formally cautioned Minister Mehta.
