Gaighat: A fire that broke out early Tuesday morning in Beltar Bazaar, Ward No. 7 of Chaudandigadhi Municipality in Udayapur district, has resulted in the complete destruction of two houses and the deaths of two individuals, whose charred bodies were recovered from the scene.
According to the police, the fire is preliminarily believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit at around 2:00 a.m. Inspector Prabhat Limbu of the Beltar Area Police Office stated that the identities of the deceased have yet to be confirmed. He added that a detailed assessment of the damage is currently underway.
Two skeletal remains were discovered at the site. Based on information provided by family members, it is suspected that the remains may belong to Laxmi Khadka and Pawan Khadka, who have been unaccounted for since the incident.
Police have confirmed that further investigation into the incident is ongoing. The fire completely destroyed the homes of Laxmi Khadka and Rabin Kumar Das. It is estimated that the losses are significant, particularly as Laxmi Khadka’s house also contained a warehouse for a bookstore.
Fire engines were dispatched from Chaudandigadhi Municipality, Triyuga Municipality, Rautamai Rural Municipality, and Kanchanrup Municipality in Saptari district of Madhesh Province. With the joint efforts of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, municipal police, and local residents, the fire was brought under control after approximately three hours, at around 6:00 a.m.
