Kathmandu: Temperatures have been on the rise across most parts of the country in recent days. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast hot days/heatwave conditions in the Terai region on Wednesday (Baisakh 9). It has also indicated the possibility of light to moderate rain/snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in the hilly and mountainous regions.
According to measurements taken at 5:45 PM on Tuesday, Bhairahawa recorded a temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, while Simara reached 40.3 degrees Celsius.
The Department stated that this afternoon, the mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces will generally experience partly cloudy conditions. The hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces, along with other mountainous areas, will see partial cloud cover, while the rest of the country will remain mostly clear.
There is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi Province, as well as in the mountainous areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
The Department has forecast hot day conditions in the Terai, as well as in valleys and basins of Madhes Province and the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces. It also noted the possibility of heatwave conditions in the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
At night, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi Province, as well as in the mountainous areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, while the rest of the country will remain mostly clear. There is a chance of light rain/snowfall at one or two places in the mountainous region of Koshi Province.
