Kathmandu – A meeting of the Constitutional Council is set to take place today to recommend the appointment of the Chief Justice.Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) has called the meeting for 5:00 PM, according to official sources.
Several constitutional positions, including that of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, are currently vacant. Due to the absence of Constitutional Council meetings in recent months, Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla has been carrying out the responsibilities of the office.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting has been convened to move forward the process of appointing a new Chief Justice. The main agenda of the meeting is the recommendation for the appointment of the Chief Justice.
Those invited to attend the meeting include Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad Aryal, Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives Bhishmaraj Angdembe, and Deputy Speaker Ruby Kumari.
Prime Minister Shah, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Constitutional Council, called the meeting after President Ramchandra Paudel issued an ordinance related to the Constitutional Council on Tuesday.
