Army must not take sides between Balen and squatter communities, says UML chair Oli

Kathmandu — Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, has raised concerns regarding the role of the Nepal Army during operations involving the demolition of informal settlements.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the presence of army personnel during bulldozer operations in squatter settlements, Oli stated: “The Army should not be seen as supporting Balen while opposing the squatter communities. My suggestion is that the Army should maintain its institutional dignity and remain within its appropriate and respected role.”

On 20 Jestha (Nepali calendar), speaking in Kathmandu, Oli questioned the involvement of the Nepal Army after army personnel were reportedly seen during demolition activities carried out in squatter settlements.
