Kathmandu — Tribhuvan University has instructed professors and employees who took study leave but did not return to university service after completing their studies to contact the university within 15 days.
In a public notice issued today, the university’s Study Leave Management and Implementation Committee requested all faculty and staff members who, after utilizing study leave, failed to return to service in accordance with university regulations or left their positions before completing the required service period, to get in touch with the committee’s office.
The notice states that if the concerned individuals fail to make contact within the stipulated timeframe, legal action will be initiated in accordance with the bond agreements signed with the university and the applicable regulations.
According to Tribhuvan University, more than NPR 118.4 million has already been recovered from 50 professors who did not return to service after taking study leave.
The university emphasized that study leave is a special facility granted with the objective of developing skilled, research-oriented, and internationally competitive academic personnel. However, it noted that some professors misused this opportunity by failing to return to service after completing their studies, resulting in financial, educational, and academic losses to the institution.
The university further reminded beneficiaries of study leave that they are obligated to fulfill the service commitments stipulated in their agreements and stated that efforts to recover any remaining outstanding amounts will continue.
