Bird flu detected in Bhaktapur, over 48,000 chickens culled

Bhaktapur: Bird flu has been confirmed in Bhaktapur district, prompting authorities to cull thousands of poultry birds to prevent the spread of the disease.

According to veterinary officials, bird flu outbreaks were detected at poultry farms in Changunarayan and Suryabinayak municipalities. Following laboratory confirmation of the disease, affected chickens have been destroyed as part of containment measures.

Dr. Amik Shrestha, a veterinarian at the Livestock Service Office, stated that 38,795 chickens raised in wards 2, 8, and 9 of Changunarayan Municipality have been culled so far. Similarly, 9,378 chickens in wards 1, 4, and 8 of Suryabinayak Municipality were destroyed after the disease was confirmed.

In total, 48,173 chickens have been culled across the district. Dr. Shrestha said that all poultry birds at farms where bird flu infections were confirmed have been destroyed to prevent further transmission of the disease.
