Monsoon active across the country; heavy rain likely in five provinces

Kathmandu— The monsoon is currently active across Nepal. It has expanded to the remaining parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as throughout Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. At present, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces are experiencing mostly cloudy conditions, while Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces have generally cloudy skies.

According to the Hydrology and Meteorology Department’s Weather Forecasting Division, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is currently occurring at a few places in Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, and at one or two places in Koshi Province.

The division has forecast that the weather will remain generally to fully cloudy across the country on Wednesday afternoon. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall in some high Himalayan areas. Many hilly areas are likely to receive light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning, while a few places in the Tarai are also expected to experience similar weather. Additionally, one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces may receive heavy rainfall.

Similarly, the weather is expected to remain fully cloudy across the country on Wednesday night. There is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall, at a few places in the Himalayan region. Some hilly areas and a few places in the Tarai are also likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces.
