News delhi: The number of tigers in India has increased to more than three thousand. According to the latest count, the number of tigers in India has reached 3,167, according to AFP, citing the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Four years ago, the number of tigers in India was 2,967.
At the time of independence from Britain in 1947, the number of tigers in India is estimated to be around 40,000. In the following decades, it decreased to 1,411 in 2006. In 2010, 12 other countries with tiger numbers including India signed an agreement to double the number of tigers by 2022.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are about 4,500 tigers in the world. In 1900, there were more than 100,000 tigers in the world, but in 2010, the number of tigers dropped to 3,200. According to the IUCN, the tiger has lost more than 93 percent of its historical range in the past hundred years. Currently, only 13 countries have survived the tiger.
