Kathmandu, April 13: Office bearers of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Thursday met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and discussed legal issues, and reforming judicial sector, among others. In the meeting, Prime Minister Prachanda appreciated the role played by the Bar Association for the protection of democracy and the Constitution and for reforming the justice system.
In the discussion, the Bar officials drew the attention of Prime Minister Dahal to hold a meeting of the Constitutional Council and appoint a Chief Justice as there has been no Chief Justice in the Supreme Court for 14 months.
In response, Prime Minister Dahal expressed his commitment to consult with the officers of the Constitutional Council and call an immediate meeting to take the initiative to reach the necessary decision. Earlier on Wednesday, the Nepal Bar had warned of an agitation if the Chief Justice was not appointed within 10 days.
