Kathmandu, May 19: The Press Council Nepal has urged all media and social media users to not spread disinformation in a way that affects investigation.Issuing a press release here Thursday, the media content regulatory body, Press Council Nepal, said misleading information and disinformation were being spread on YouTube and Facebook in the unfolding incidents in Nepal. Council’s attention is drawn towards the misinformation that has capacity to assassinate character of political leaders, organization, political party and individual.
‘It is sheer deviation from journalistic code and standard to disseminate information without quoting reliable source and verification of information which dents truth,’ said the statement signed by Deputy Administrative Officer, Ram Sharan Bohara.
The Council has been receiving slew of complaints on contents spread on media and social networking site, Bohara said, reminding everyone that the spread of baseless information invokes action as per Section 4 (c.f) and 5 (k) of Journalists’ Code of Conduct, 2073 (first amendment 2076).
