Kathmandu: The CPN (UML) has demanded that the government introduce a new bill to make usury related offenses punishable.A Secretariat meeting of the party held at the Party Headquarters, Chyasal, on Saturday asked the government to bring the new bill immediately as the ‘Bill to amend some Nepal Act related to Civil Code’ has already become inactive due to the government.
At a press conference organised after the meeting, UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali argued that the bill became inactive due to delay to present the bill by the government itself, not taking necessary initiatives to run House and failing to hold discussion on the bill in the House of Representatives following serious dispute among power coalition partners.
Similarly, the meeting also decided to assign standing committee member Guru Baral as the In-charge of UML Bagmati Province Committee. Gyawali added that decision was taken to extend the time for renewal of party membership by 15 days from July 16.
Likewise, Chairperson KP Sharma Oli would visit Cambodia as an observer from July 17-21. The meeting also stressed that the assistance received from other developed countries including US, which can be helpful for Nepal’s development, should be invested in nation’s welfare in a systematic manner, he mentioned.
The meeting also determined that the involvement of Speaker of Koshi Province Assembly in formation of government or toppling down was an attack on democratic and parliamentary practice. The UML urged the government to initiate effective steps to control lumpy skin disease, to provide insurance amount to farmers, to make effective arrangement of vaccine against lumpy skin disease and to give relief to farmers.
