Two more apprehended in connection with Lalita Niwas land-grab scam

Kathmandu : Nepal Police on Monday arrested two people from Lalitpur for their alleged involvement in the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police held them for being accomplice in registering the public land into the names of individuals by presenting themselves as the fake tenants. CIB’s SSP Dinesh Acharya shared that police arrested Sanjay Kumar Maharjan and Sakulananda Maharjan, residents of Lalitpur district, for their involvement in the scam.

According to SSP Acharya, so far 22 individuals including the duo arrested today have been held in the scam including some prominent entrepreneurs and bureaucrats. A total of 143 ropanis of land belonging to the government was embezzled from 2049 BS to 2069 BS. The Lalita Niwas land belonging to the government was brought under individual ownership with forgery.

Earlier, the CIB had submitted a report with recommendation to sue 300 persons in this connection. However, the government attorney had withdrawn the report, reasoning need of additional investigation.
The CIB is yet again probing the scam.
