The citizenship dispute of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane will be discussed in the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court today (Friday).The Supreme Court, while conducting a preliminary hearing on the petition filed questioning Lamichhane’s eligibility to be a Member of Parliament, ordered that both parties be brought to a discussion for today on 6th December.
Spokesperson of the Supreme Court, Bimal Paudyalsaid,’the discussion to be held on Friday is focused on whether or not an interim order will be issued on the registered petition against him.’If the interim order is not issued, his position will remain intact.
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court with the demand that Lamichhane’s Nepali citizenship was revoked as soon as he took American citizenship and that after he returned to Nepal, he renounced American citizenship and did not acquire Nepali citizenship again. In another writ petition, it is demanded that investigation and action should be taken against him as he has used US and Nepalese passports simultaneously.
