Malekhu, Aug 23: At least 8 people were killed when a bus going to Pokhara from Kathmandu fell into the Trishuli River at Chalise, Fajuri-2 of Dhading district today at around 11 AM. The bus with registration number plate Province 3-01-005 Kha 9952 veered off the road and fell into the river.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Santulal Prasad Jaiswar at the District Police Office, Dhading, said that more than 15 injured passengers have been rescued. Although casualties have occurred in the accident, their exact numbers are not yet known. Rescue is ongoing, according to Jaiswar.
The bus was operated by Myagdi Korala Bus Company. According to Chairman Mohan KC of the company, this 32-seat bus had left Kathmandu at 7 AM with 20 passengers on board. Of them, six people from Beni had bought tickets. Other passengers were from Pokhara, Parbat, Baglung and other cities. KC said that although he had been told that eight passengers had died, he is not sure.
“There is no information about other passengers apart from those who had bought the tickets,” said Chairman KC, “There were no other passengers added on the way.” According to him, the special capacity of this bus is 32 seats. However, he said that the company has limited the number of seats to 23 to ensure a comfortable journey for the passengers.
