CPN-UML leader Hikmat Kumar Karki has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Province 1. He was appointed as the chief minister by the state chief Parshuram Khapung according to Article 168 (2) of the constitution.
Karki was elected as a member of the Provincial Assembly for the second time from Jhapa Region No.5 (1). According to Constitution, with the support of 60 state assembly members, he had submitted the claim for CM to the state chief Khapung.
The time given by the provincial chief for government formation was at 5 pm on Sunday . He submitted his claim for CM an hour before the time was up. 60 MPs from CPN-Maoist Center, RPP and Janata Samajwadi Party have supported Karki to be CM.
