Mustang customs office collects nearly NPR 6 billion in revenue

Mustang, Nepal — The Mustang Customs Office, located at the Nepal–China northern border point of Korala, has reported revenue collection of nearly NPR 6 billion in the current fiscal year.

According to the office, which has been in full operation since September 17 (Bhadra 31), it collected a total of NPR 5.71 billion in revenue as of March 20 (Chaitra 7).

Chief Customs Officer Ramesh Khadka stated that goods worth NPR 12.17 billion were imported through the checkpoint during this period, while exports to China amounted to NPR 203 million. He further noted that customs clearance has been completed for 2,347 electric vehicles imported via the Korala border so far.

Similarly, a total of 1,804 cargo containers have undergone customs clearance at the Mustang Customs Office, according to Chief Khadka.

Following landslides in the months of Asar and Shrawan that completely disrupted operations at the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points, the Korala checkpoint in Mustang was utilized as an alternative trade route.

Subsequently, the Government of Nepal’s Department of Customs brought the Korala checkpoint into full operation. Previously, the Mustang Customs Office collected only NPR 1 to 1.5 million in annual revenue, but since mid-October (Ashoj), it has achieved significant growth in revenue collection, the office reported.
