Jumla – In the past year, approximately 175 metric tons of Marshi rice have been exported from Jumla to markets outside the district. Based on this volume, it is estimated that rice worth around NPR 35 million has been sold.
According to Ram Bhakta Adhikari, Chief of the Agriculture Development Office, paddy cultivation is carried out on 2,888 hectares of land in the district. Of this, 1,068 hectares, or 37 percent, is used for the production of indigenous Jumli Marshi rice.
From Kartik to the end of Falgun, this quantity of rice was transported خارج the district for sale. Due to increasing incidences of pests and diseases affecting Marshi rice, the Agricultural Research Center has recommended the cultivation of Chandanath-1 and Chandanath-3 varieties in various areas.
Marshi paddy is transplanted by the end of Jestha and typically matures within approximately 180 days. Traders in the district headquarters, Khalanga, report that this rice is sold at around NPR 200 per kilogram.
