Birgunj – Goods and commodities worth NPR 794.87 billion were imported through the Birgunj Customs Office during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. Compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, imports through the checkpoint increased by NPR 102.44 billion, or 15 percent.
Information Officer Uday Singh Bista of the Birgunj Customs Office said that imports through the Birgunj route have increased significantly. He attributed the rise mainly to increased imports of petroleum products and iron-related goods. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, goods worth NPR 692.43 billion had been imported through the checkpoint.
During the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, five types of petroleum products worth NPR 181.70 billion were imported. Similarly, iron and iron-related goods worth NPR 69.42 billion were brought in through the customs point. Machinery and spare parts worth NPR 57.66 billion were also imported, along with crude soybean oil worth NPR 55.07 billion.
