Kaski – Pokhara Metropolitan City is set to begin demolishing structures built illegally within the river corridor of the Firke River, which flows through the central market area of the city, starting today. The 35-day deadline previously issued by the metropolis for the removal of structures built by encroaching on public land expired on Saturday.
The metropolitan office had issued a public notice on Baisakh 3, directing individuals and institutions occupying public land to remove their structures. Mayor Dhanraj Acharya stated that, since prior notices had already been served to residents and builders within the river corridor, the clearance campaign would now begin simultaneously from three locations.
Mayor Acharya said that all kinds of structures constructed within the river boundary, as identified by the Firke River survey report conducted in Asar 2080, would be removed. The demolition drive will begin from three different points: from Andherikuna, located along the border of Wards 2 and 18 toward Ward 4; from Budhanilkantha Temple at Firkepul, situated between Wards 4 and 5 toward Wards 5 and 8; and from Lions Building at Zero Kilometer, located between Wards 7 and 8 toward Fewa Lake. The metropolis stated that the anti-encroachment campaign would be carried out under the leadership of ward chairpersons and local representatives.
