Nepal honored as ‘Most Charming Tourism Destination’ in China

Kathmandu — Nepal has been honored with the title of “Most Charming Tourism Destination” in Guangzhou, China. The award was presented during the Guangzhou International Travel Fair held from May 21 to 23 in Guangzhou, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.

The Nepal Tourism Board stated that the recognition was awarded on the basis of Nepal’s natural beauty, spirituality, cultural diversity, and appeal for adventure tourism. The Board coordinated Nepal’s participation in the three-day international tourism fair under the slogan “Nepal: A Lifetime Experience.” During the event, Nepal showcased its potential in cultural, religious, adventure, outdoor, and luxury tourism to international visitors and travel trade professionals.

Guangzhou, located near Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, is regarded as an important market for promoting Nepali tourism due to its status as a major commercial and tourism hub. The Nepal Tourism Board noted that there is significant potential to attract Chinese tourists, particularly in the areas of wellness, religious, cultural, and luxury tourism.

On the opening day of the fair, May 21, Nepal organized performances of traditional Nepali cultural dances along with a special presentation on Destination Nepal. The program introduced Chinese visitors and tourism entrepreneurs to Nepal’s art, culture, and tourism heritage.

During the opening session, Nepal Tourism Board Senior Manager Bimal Kandel delivered a country presentation highlighting Nepal’s tourism potential, key destinations, and promotion strategies. He also participated in a panel discussion focused on Nepal’s tourism market expansion strategy.

Eight Nepali tourism companies participated in the fair. The participating companies promoted trekking, tour, hotel, and hospitality packages to Chinese and international tourism businesses.

Currently, Nepal Airlines Corporation and China Southern Airlines are operating direct flights between Kathmandu and Guangzhou. The Nepal Tourism Board expressed confidence that the direct air connectivity will help expand tourism access between Nepal and China and contribute to an increase in Chinese tourist arrivals.
