Birgunj (Parsa): Electric vehicles (EVs) worth more than NPR 4.02 billion were imported through Birgunj during the first ten months of the current fiscal year. Compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, the value of EV imports increased by NPR 2.37 billion, or 143.6%.
According to Uday Singh Bista, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, a total of 15,271 electric vehicles of various types were imported through the Birgunj border during the current fiscal year, resulting in a significant increase in customs revenue.
In the first ten months of the previous fiscal year, 9,042 electric vehicles worth NPR 1.65 billion were imported through this checkpoint, generating NPR 814.7 million in revenue.
During the first ten months of the current fiscal year, 657 electric cars, jeeps, and vans with power capacities ranging from 51 kW to 100 kW, worth NPR 1.87 billion, were imported. These imports generated NPR 1.19 billion in revenue. In comparison, only six EV cars, jeeps, and vans in the same power category, worth NPR 20.6 million, were imported during the corresponding period last fiscal year.
Similarly, 8,867 electric motorcycles and scooters worth NPR 1.17 billion were imported during the current fiscal year’s first ten months, generating NPR 385.5 million in revenue. During the same period last year, 4,834 electric motorcycles and scooters worth NPR 960 million were imported, generating NPR 201.5 million in revenue.
Information Officer Bista also stated that vehicles and spare parts powered by fuel and electricity worth NPR 31.31 billion entered through this customs point during the first ten months of the current fiscal year. Compared to the same period last fiscal year, imports of vehicles and spare parts increased by NPR 9.65 billion, or 44.58%, in value.
During the current fiscal year’s first ten months, 628 jeeps, cars, and vans worth NPR 1.25 billion were imported through Birgunj, generating NPR 3.17 billion in revenue. In contrast, during the same period last fiscal year, 855 jeeps, cars, and vans worth NPR 1.81 billion were imported.
Likewise, 51,423 unassembled motorcycles worth NPR 7.32 billion were imported during the current fiscal year’s first ten months, generating NPR 7.09 billion in revenue. During the same period last fiscal year, imports of such motorcycles were valued at NPR 5.21 billion.
