Parliamentary Committee instructs to expedite construction of federal parliament building

A team of the Delegated Legislation and Government Assurance Committee under the National Assembly today inspected the under construction Building for Federal Parliament at Singhadurbar.
Physical progress of the building is 61 per cent, while financial progress is 59 per cent so far. The construction works were started in October 2019 with an objective of completing it within three years. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has been blamed for the delay in the construction of the building.

The building is under construction at the cost of 5 billion rupees plus and the building covers some 124 ropani of land. The deadline for the construction of the building has been extended by six months.  During the inspection, the parliamentary team directed the Ministry for Urban Development and construction company to expedite the construction works in order to run the next parliament session in the new building.

Talking to RSS after the inspection, Committee Chairperson Maya Prasad Sharma said, ‘Progress in the construction of the building is slow as compared to the previous year. There is no improvement in the working style. We have suggested to complete the building by mobilizing required number of workers.’

The team expressed its dissatisfaction terming that some infrastructures of the under construction library were impractical and pointed out the need of making systematic and improvement to make it of international standards.
