Khotang, July 19: Khotang district has produced as high as 168 metric tonnes of litchi this year against last year’s 153 metric tonnes of production, the District Agriculture Knowledge Centre confirmed. The local farmers have earned millions of rupees by growing litchi.
The farmers in Khotang have grown litchi commercially in 31 hectares of land. This year, the Rawabensi Rural Municipality has grown 74 metric tonnes of litchi, the highest among the 10 local levels in Khotang.
Officer at the Centre, Sanjay Kumar Pandit, said that Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi produced two metric tonnes while Halesi Tuwachung produced 20.5 metric tonnes. Jantedhunga Rural Municipality and Diprung Chuichumma also grew litchi in good quantity this year, the Centre shared.
Litchi grown in Khotang is sold in the local Haat bazaar and other cities including Kathmandu.
With the good production of litchi here, the local governments in the district have provided the litchi saplings for free to further promote its production by luring farmers to the litchi farm.
