Lawmaker Bhandari airlifted to India further treatment

Nepali Congress lawmaker Chandra Bhandari, who has sustained serious burn injuries in a cooking gas cylinder explosion, has been airlifted to Mumbai, India for treatment.

According to Bhuwan Bhusal, Bhandari’s personal secretary, the leader has been taken to Mumbai on a chartered flight of Shree Airlines and will be admitted to National Burn Centre for further treatment, on Thursday.

A six-member medical air evacuation team of Norvic Hospital are on board the aircraft for in-flight medical assistance.

Doctors attending to the leader had recommended taking him to a health institution with better medical facilities abroad stating that his health condition had deteriorated and he has sustained burn injuries in 25-30 percent of his body.

Lawmaker Bhandari and his mother Harikala Bhandari had sustained burn injuries during the incident that occurred at their home in Buddhanagar in Kathmandu. Harikala died while undergoing treatment.
