Imports through Birgunj customs soar to Rs 218 billion in first quarter of fiscal year

Birgunj: In the first three months of the current fiscal year, imports worth Rs 218.10 billion entered Nepal through the Birgunj customs checkpoint, marking a substantial rise of Rs 34.23 billion compared to the same period last year, according to the Birgunj Customs Office.

Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali confirmed the sharp increase in imports, highlighting that the total import value for the period was significantly higher than last year’s figure of Rs 183.87 billion. This surge has contributed to a customs revenue of Rs 58.23 billion.

Additionally, the first quarter of the fiscal year also saw a remarkable growth in exports. Goods worth Rs 26.58 billion were exported through Birgunj, a substantial jump from last year’s figure of Rs 8.84 billion, reflecting an increase of Rs 17.75 billion in export value.
