Ban on sale of plastic below 40 microns

Kathmandu — The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has announced stricter enforcement on the sale and distribution of plastic and plastic-related products.

The department conducted simultaneous inspections of 19 plastic industries and shops and directed them not to sell or distribute plastic products thinner than 40 microns from now on. In addition to this, the department has also issued other corrective instructions.

It stated that the necessary directives and actions have been taken in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 (2018) and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2076 (2019).

The department issued necessary instructions to Niruj Plastic Industry, MN Plastic Industry, National Plastic Industries, Kunwar Furniture Industry, and Diksha Store. Similarly, plastic industries, shops, and importers including Pashupatinath Enterprises and Universal Traders have been instructed to stop the sale and distribution of plastic bags thinner than 40 microns.“The department clarified that the directive was issued to protect the environment.”
