Kathmandu – Nepal Oil Corporation has increased the prices of petroleum products. Within just a week of the previous adjustment, the corporation has raised the price of petrol as well as diesel/kerosene by NPR 15 per liter, effective from midnight today. Earlier, prices had been adjusted on Chaitra 11.
According to the new rates, petrol has been fixed at NPR 199.50 per liter in the first category, NPR 201 in the second category, and NPR 202 in the third category. Similarly, diesel/kerosene prices have been set at NPR 179.50 per liter in the first category, NPR 181 in the second, and NPR 182 in the third category. With this adjustment, the price of petrol in Kathmandu has reached NPR 202 per liter.
The corporation has categorized Charali, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Amlekhgunj, Bhalwari, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Birgunj under the first category; Surkhet and Dang under the second; and Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal depots under the third category.
The corporation stated that rising international fuel prices have compelled the increase in domestic prices. Based on purchase rates received from the Indian Oil Corporation on March 16 and 31, there is a loss of NPR 47.12 per liter on petrol, NPR 133.45 per liter on diesel, and NPR 416.37 per cylinder on LPG.
Due to the inability to adjust prices in line with international market fluctuations, the corporation is incurring a fortnightly loss of NPR 13.21 billion. Spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur stated that the growing losses have made it difficult to make payments to the Indian Oil Corporation.
