Kathmandu — Preparations for the second economic census have reached their final stage. The National Statistics Office has stated that enumerators and necessary supervisors have already been mobilized across the country and have reached their assigned areas.
According to the schedule, the economic census will commence nationwide from April 15 (2 Baisakh). The field-level data collection is expected to be completed within the first week of June (Asar). Approximately 5,000 personnel have been deployed for this task.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged all industries, business establishments, entrepreneurs, and concerned stakeholders to actively participate in the second economic census. He emphasized the importance of contributing to this significant effort of collecting data related to the overall industrial and economic sectors of the country.
The census aims to collect fundamental data across 18 sectors of the economy. It will gather information on the number, types, investment, employment, production, and service delivery of industries, businesses, service sectors, cooperatives, and both private and public institutions.
Data will be collected from all establishments across the country, whether registered or unregistered, including large and small businesses, enterprises generating significant employment, and self-employment ventures. The census will also cover industries, factories, trade and business entities, non-governmental organizations, government institutions, as well as public and private schools and hospitals.
The preparatory phase of the economic census was completed by the end of Falgun. Similarly, at the beginning of Chaitra, a total of 84 offices (77 district offices plus 7 additional offices) were established, which will remain operational until the end of Asar.
The National Statistics Office has requested all stakeholders to provide accurate and complete information to ensure the success of this campaign. It has clarified that the economic census is a national initiative and requires active participation from everyone.
Previously, the national economic census conducted in 2018 recorded a total of 923,356 establishments and businesses operating across the country. — RSS
