Floods disrupt traffic on BP highway after diversions washed away

Banepa: Vehicular movement along the BP Highway has been completely disrupted following heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon, which triggered flooding in the Roshi River. According to the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, floodwaters washed away diversion roads at several locations, including Charsebesi, Ghumaune, Daunne, and Narkel, leading to the suspension of traffic. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista stated that the flood not only swept away temporary diversion routes but also displaced hume pipes installed in the river for vehicle passage, forcing authorities to halt all vehicular movement.

Efforts are underway to restore the disrupted road sections, with two excavators deployed at Ghumaune and one at Charsebesi to rebuild diversion routes. Police further reported that vehicles have been halted at Mangaltar, Bhakunde, and Kavrebhanjyang since midnight. Authorities estimate that traffic will remain suspended until around 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, as reconstruction of the diversions is still in progress.

Notably, floods in the second week of October last year had damaged approximately 28 kilometers of road from Bhakunde to Nepal Thok. Reconstruction work on the affected stretch is currently ongoing through multiple contracts, with four sections in Kavrepalanchok and one in Sindhuli under repair.
