Offer for institutional deposit investment, NRB to Place NPR 10 Billion in banking system

Kathmandu — Nepal Rastra Bank has invited proposals for the investment of NPR 10 billion in institutional deposits. Issuing a notice on Monday to commercial banks, development banks, and finance companies, the central bank called for bids to place the specified amount.

According to the bank, the funds—held under its gratuity and pension fund—will be invested as a fixed deposit for a period of 366 days.As per Nepal Rastra Bank, the investment period will run from April 28, 2026, to April 28, 2027. Interested banks and financial institutions are required to submit their proposals by Baisakh 9 (April 22, 2026), specifying the amount they wish to accept and the interest rate they are offering.

The total investment amount has been allocated as follows: NPR 8 billion for commercial banks, NPR 1.5 billion for development banks, and NPR 500 million for finance companies. The central bank has set minimum eligibility criteria for participating institutions. These include having completed at least two years of operation, maintaining a non-performing loan (NPL) ratio not exceeding 8 percent of total loans, and a net NPL ratio not exceeding 3 percent, among other requirements.
