Kathmandu, June 15: Harikrishna Karki has been called today (Thursday) for a parliamentary hearing on the recommendation of the Chief Justice proposed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. After the discussion of the complainant on Wednesday, the hearing committee decided to call for 8 o’clock this morning. The committee discussed with the complainants for about 20 minutes. But the complaint could not be discussed. Then the committee sent them out saying that the time was up.
The meeting of the Constitutional Council held at Singha Durbar on 25th Baisakh had recommended the name of Karki as the Chief Justice. Karki’s parliamentary hearing process was not able to proceed without the formation of the parliamentary hearing committee. On February 1, 2078, an impeachment motion was registered against the then Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara. The court has been without a leader since Jabara retired last November while still under suspension.
Currently Karki Kamu is the Chief Justice. The appointment of the Chief Justice is to be done by the President after approval by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has 5/5 members from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. On behalf of the Congress, Ramesh Ukhtar, Ishwari Devi Neupane, Jeevan Pariyar, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Rameshjung Rayamazhi are members.
Padam Giri, Mahesh Kumar Bertaula, Lilanath Shrestha, Ishwari GM and Devendra Dahal are members from CPN-UML. Janardhan Sharma and Jagaprasad Sharma are members from the Maoist Center. Dolprasad Aryal from Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA), Pashupati Shamsher Jabra from Rashtriya Prajatantra Party and Prakash Adhikari from Janata Samajwadi Party are members.
