The CPN (Maoist Centre) Parliamentary Party leader Shalikram Jamarkattel has been appointed Chief Minister of the Bagmati Province.The Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma today appointed him in line with Article 168 (2) of the constitution. He got a majority support from 70 Province Assembly (PA) members including from the ruling alliance (27 from the CPN (UML), 21 from the Maoist Center, 13 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, seven from the CPN (Unified Socialist) and two from the Hamro Nepali Party).
There are a total of 110 members in the PA from the Nepali Congress, the UML, the Maoist Center, the Unified Socialist and the Hamro Nepali Party.Born in 2030 BS in the then Kiranchowk VDC in Dhading, Jamarkattel, 51, was elected the PA member from Dhading constituency 1 (2) in the recently held elections to the House of Representatives and the PA.
He started his political career in 2044 BS by associating himself with the Akhil Sixth. Having actively joined the Maoist insurgency from the very beginning, he was elected from Dhading constituency 3 into the first Constituent Assembly in 2064 BS. He also was elected into the interim parliament in 2063 BS before being elected as the Bagmati PA member in 2074 BS.
Jamarkattel served as Minister for Internal Affairs and Law in the provincial government led by Dormani Paudel, and as Minister for Economic Affairs in the government led by Rajendra Pandey.
